2023 Global Justice and Peace Awards Night honoring Departmental Assembly of the Peoples of Huehuetenango – ADH in Guatemala & Melissa Nix.

We are honored to invite you to our 44th Annual Awards Night Celebration.

On Thursday, November 9th, from 6-8pm, we will honor the Departmental Assembly of the Peoples of Huehuetenango – ADH with the Global Justice and Peace Award.

The celebration will take place at Project Worthmore 1666 Elmira Street, Aurora CO 80010. RSVP HERE

ADH, has worked for over 17 years in defense of the lands, waters, life and human rights of the Q’anjob’al, Chuj, Akateko, Popti and Mam people of Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Through community consultations in their territories ADH has been a key player in the decision making process of installation of hydroelectric dams and mining project, which the communities has rejected.

During the last four years ADH has incorporated the protection of water as part of their strategy in defense for life by making local authorities responsible by creating Municipal Agreements for the Protection of Water, which are official laws at the local level that account for the care of water protecting the rights of the people to access water and also to care against the plundering and contamination of water.

During the event DJPC will honor Melissa Nix with the John Proctor Organizer Award. Ms. Nix is the Director of Curriculum & Intercultural Programming at Regis College Center for Service Learning, who has for decades dedicated her life and work to social justice, and the rights of migrants and refugees.

The Celebration program will include keynote by Victor Sales who will be receiving the award in representation of ADH. Stay tuned for more details of the program.

Event tickets: Anyone can sign up for this hybrid event free of charge or by making a free-will offering (it’s a fundraiser for DJPC). In honor of DJPC 44rd anniversary, we suggest a donation of $23 or more.
