Denver, CO – Community and advocacy organizations in Colorado will host a virtual townhall with Senators Hickenlooper and Bennet on Monday. The event is an opportunity for the community to demonstrate to the senators a desire for investments in the infrastructure of Colorado’s health and well-being through a budget reconciliation package, and the Fiscal Year 2022 and Fiscal Year 2023 budgets. The Town Hall will discuss programs that address climate change and reduce child poverty with a focus on a pathway to citizenship and the reinvestment of tax dollars into programs that welcome and integrate immigrants.

“The House on Thursday voted to continue Trump era funding to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and increases to Customs and Border patrol, while the Senate has yet to deliver on a pathway to permanency for Colorado families and businesses. We look forward to sharing with the Senators and the public the real costs of our current policies and discussing tangible solutions within the Senate’s power to deliver.”

Gabriela Flora of the American Friends Service Committee continued “Colorado’s state legislature has passed year on year bi-partisan measures valuing the critical cultural and economic contributions of immigrants, regardless of status. We look forward to that same commitment and leadership from our two senators.”

The town hall will feature speakers from Pueblo, Fort Morgan and Denver as well as a special presentation by the children of immigrants. Hundreds of participants joining from around the state will share in inviting Senator Bennet and Hickenlooper to lead on concrete policy proposals and other innovative solutions reflecting Colorado’s immigrant welcoming stance.
