Indigenous activist, Victor Puertas, a member of the Yagua Nation to Receive Human Rights Award from Denver Justice and Peace Committee

Tuesday, December 10th, at 6pm, the Denver Justice and Peace Committee (DJPC) will commemorate International Human Rights Day by celebrating it´s 45th Anniversary and Awards Night.

During the event, DJPC will present their annual Global Justice and Peace Award to Victor Puertas for his dedicated support to indigenous communities within Turtle Island. In particular, he is being recognized for his commitment to the Anishinaabe people’s struggle against Line 3, the fight to protect the Weelaunee Forest, and his support of the Black Mesa Indian Elders.

DJPC will also honor Elliot Williams with the John Proctor Organizer Award, for a decade of service on our board of directors, and his work to advance immigrant and workers rights, clean energy, reproductive justice, fiscal policy and educational equity in the State of Colorado.

The evening will feature music by Elena Klaver,  Adolfo Romero and Surasteros, as well as poetry from Jennifer Piper.

DJPC has been promoting people to people solidarity for 45 years, advocating for justice and peace through education, promoting human rights, economic and environmental justice  particularly with oppressed communities in the Abya Yala.
