Empowering Teach-In on International Women’s Day Addresses Impact of Tax Dollars on Gaza Genocide

Denver, CO – On International Women’s Day, March 8th, several peace and justice organizations, including CODEPINK Denver/Boulder, Denver Justice and Peace Committee, Jewish Voice for Peace, Colorado for Palestine Club, Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center, and Denver Peace Council are joining forces to host an empowering teach-in.

The event aims to shed light on how our tax dollars perpetuate genocide in Gaza, with a particular focus on the profound repercussions for Palestinian women and children. The event is part of CODEPINK’s nationwide International Women’s Day campaign designed to unite women’s struggles at home and in Palestine by centering reproductive justice internationally.

Under the banner of “Highlighting the Biggest Cost of War: Women and Children,” the teach-in seeks to engage attendees in a deep exploration of the implications of redirecting these funds towards local communities, fostering positive change, and meeting the urgent needs of the people.

Speaker line-up:

  • Dr. Deborah Young is a professor, Fulbright scholar, and founder of Empowering Communities Globally, a local NGO focusing on refugees and immigrants in Colorado and underserved populations in conflict settings, including Palestine.
  • Irina Karic is a Bosnian-American humanitarian aid worker who spent years working in Palestine and Jordan.
  • Christi Yoder is a passionate defender of human rights, founder and executive director of the Center for Genocide Research and Education, and currently finishing a doctorate in Holocaust and Genocide Studies.
  • Christine Sargent is a medical anthropologist focusing on family, gender, and disability in the Arabic-speaking Middle East.

The event will occur from 6-8pm (MST) at The Garage, located at the Highlands United Methodist Church, 3830 W 32nd Ave, Denver, CO 80212, United States.

The teach-in is open to the public with free entry. However, donations are encouraged to support the ongoing efforts of the participating organizations. In adherence to accessibility guidelines, the venue is ADA accessible, and attendees are encouraged to wear masks for the safety and comfort of all participants.
