All internships are unpaid. We can work with academic institutions if you intend to receive academic credit for your internship through your college or university. Our internships are highly competitive but offer substantial experience in the topical area.

Minimum of six-month commitment, with preference to a year long commitment, unless indicated otherwise.

Social Media and Public Relations Internship (OPEN)
Deadline: June 25, 2013
DJPC is accepting applications for a Social Media and Public Relations Intern to help the organization with promotion of its social actions and special events through the social media and a variety of means of communication with the public. This may include: our website, Facebook, Twitter, quarterly e-newsletter, marketing materials, mass e-mails, contact with social media in the area, etc. This post will require 8 – 10 hours of commitment per week, including occasional evening and weekend attendance at meetings and events.
Duties include :
• Take a leading role in marketing, community outreach, and promoting DJPC special events.
• Help prepare a long-term plan for consistent messaging in all media outlets, including all social media.
• Assist DJPC in updating its publicity materials and brochures, especially to make suggestions for improvement.
* Help develop the e-newsletter through design, editing, and professional writing experience.
• Assist DJPC is getting its materials and website translated into Spanish.
• Assist Director of Program Services as needed with office duties such as mailings, telephone, database maintenance, etc.

Guatemala Human Rights Internship (CLOSED)

DJPC is accepting applications for an intern dedicated to promoting the work of our CAMINOS committee (Colorado/Maya Accompaniment Project of the Sierra) which includes human rights accompaniment and a rural community health promotion project in Guatemala . This intern will work directly with the CAMINOS Steering Committee to achieve the 2011 goals for the Guatemala programs. This post will require 8 -10 hours of commitment per week, including some evening and weekend commitment for attendance at meetings and events.
Duties include:
- Attending all CAMINOS Steering Committee meetings (once a month in the evening). Report to the Steering Committee on human rights issues, events and the genocide trials in Guatemala. Maintain communication with CAMINOS leadership.
- Liaising with other local, national and international human rights organizations to exchange resources and collaborate on events, etc.
- Outreach to community groups, universities, churches etc. to publicize CAMINOS purpose and events.
- Write the CAMINOS and Guatemala update for the Mustard Seed newsletters.
- Help organize CAMINOS events – protests, fundraising activities, special events.
- Responding to Urgent Action notices on Guatemala; contribute articles to DJPC webmedia sites.

IT & Web Internship (OPEN)

DJPC is accepting applications for an Information Technology and Web intern to start immediately. Successful applicants will have a solid foundation in web technologies and an interest in Latin American affairs.
This internship will require 6 hours of commitment per week, including 1 hour of supervisory session per week.
Duties include :
- Assist in upgrading DJPC’s website.
- Act as technical point of contact for a small office environment; occasional “troubleshooter” on computer problems.
- Assist in creating changes or installing updates on the web, computer equipment and server to best serve the needs of DJPC.
- Serve as administrator and trainer to give access to other qualified DJPC members and interns in order to post our website and Facebook.
Duration: Mar. 25, 2013 – June 1, 2013, with priority given to 6-month or longer internship.

Latin American Human Rights Advocacy Internship (CLOSED)
Application Deadline:
DJPC is accepting applications for a Human Rights Advocacy Intern to coordinate the organization’s legislative outreach efforts and membership advocacy campaigns. Our activism work includes topics surrounding human rights violations, increased militarization, U.S. – Latin American free trade agreements, the School of the Americas, genocide, mining, immigration, etc. This post will require 8 – 10 hours of commitment per week, including occasional evening and weekend commitment for attendance at meetings and events.
Duties include :
- Working with DJPC’s Advocacy and Nonviolent Activism Committee to plan and prepare actions and events surrounding focal legislative issues (for example: communicating with the offices of U.S. Senators and Representatives, organizing lobby visits, mounting letter-writing efforts, sending out action alerts, networking with other advocacy groups.)
- Tracking proposed pending and proposed legislation that will have an impact in Latin America and is related to specific DJPC program initiatives.
- Building relationship with members of other Latin America rights organizations here in Denver as well as on a national level and with Colorado Congressional staff members.
- Developing a legislative update page for the DJPC website and newsletter.
- Assist Director of Program Services as needed with office duties such as mailings, telephone, database maintenance, etc.

Speakers & Salon Series Internship (CLOSED)

The Denver Justice and Peace Committee (DJPC) is accepting applications for “Speakers & Discussion Series” intern to start immediately. Successful applicants will have skills necessary for planning and coordinating monthly discussions with invited speakers and the public on Latin American topics of interest and importance to members of DJPC.
This internship will require 6 – 8 hours of commitment per week, including 1 hour of supervisory session per week.
Duties include:
- Working with DJPC’s Director of Program Services to plan and implement the 2013 Salon Discussion Series to be held monthly.
- Assisting in creating a permanent DJPC Salon Committee, for planning and facilitating monthly salons.
- Organizing volunteers to conduct each monthly Salon Discussion (venue, materials needed, set up, clean up, etc.).
- Designing the publicity for each monthly Salon and posting/distributing it via media, Facebook, Twitter, DJPC listserv, DJPC website, etc.
Duration: March 25 – June 1, 2013, with priority given to 6-month or longer intership.

Special Events Internship (CLOSED)

DJPC is accepting applications for a Special Event Intern to help coordinate DJPC’s Annual Award’s Night. This internship will require 6 – 8 hours of commitment per week, including occasional evening and weekend commitment for attendance at meetings with planning committee.
Duties include:
* Working with DJPC’s Annual Awards Night Committee and Director of Program Services to plan, prepare, recruit volunteers, and prepare the event.
* Acting as the assistant coordinator for the event.
* Assisting with membership outreach and media publicity related to the event.
* Writing articles and preparing publicity for the event and posting related updates on DJPC’s website (a very user friendly website and easy to learn).
* Assisting in coordination of volunteers and members as they are needed for preparing the event together.
* Assisting the Director of Program Services in the office, such as mailings, telephone, database maintenance, etc. in relationship to the event.
* Meeting weekly with the Director of Program Services at the DJPC office regarding the planning of the event.

Sustainable Development and Mining Internship (CLOSED)

DJPC is accepting applications for an intern dedicated to promoting the work of our Sustainable Development and Mining project, which deals with human rights and environmental problems related to the extraction industries, particularly gold-mining in Latin America. This intern will work directly with the Mining Steering Committee to achieve its goals. This post will require 8 – 10 hours of commitment per week, flexible to include some evening and weekend commitment for attendance at meetings and events, and upon mutual agreement.
Duties include:
- Researching environmental and social issues resulting from mining in Latin America, as directed by the Mining Steering Committee.
- Attending all Mining Steering Committee meetings (once a month in the evening) to report on Latin American mining issues and research.
- Maintain communication with Mining Steering Committee leadership.
- Liaising with other local, national and international human rights organizations to exchange resources and information on mining.
- Assist the Mining Steering Committee in developing and implementing a plan of action to include membership in acting on mining issues.
- Write article for The Mustard Seed newsletter to update membership on mining issues.
- Coordinate and participate in the Community Outreach program with MineWatch presentation (homes, churches, schools, etc.)
